How to obtain a generation licence

Whether your project requires a licence or registration in the producers register depends primarily on installation capacity. Four steps.

  1. Regulatory assessment

    We determine whether your installation requires a URE licence or qualifies for registration in the producers register based on capacity.

  2. Documentation completion

    We gather property title documentation and the technical and financial documents required for your application.

  3. URE application

    We file your application with the Energy Regulatory Authority and handle all correspondence and clarifications during the proceeding.

  4. Licence decision

    We obtain your licence or registration and explain the ongoing obligations arising from energy law.

Who needs a generation licence

This service is for renewable energy investors and operators who are launching energy production from renewable sources and must obtain the proper regulatory foundation before starting to sell power. We handle everything from regulatory assessment through documentation completion to the URE decision, ensuring your project launches compliant with Polish energy law.

Licence or producers register

Not every installation requires a full licence. Smaller installations can operate under producers register entry, with the threshold depending primarily on capacity. We begin by determining which regulatory path applies to your project, because this affects documentation scope, timeline and cost. Pricing is based on installation capacity.

HWW experience in energy disputes and proceedings

HWW defended an electricity customer against a debit note exceeding PLN 90,000. The seller charged a contractual penalty after the client had terminated an indefinite-term supply contract and switched providers; the court dismissed the seller’s claim, because terminating such a contract does not open the way to a contractual penalty under article 4j paragraph 3 of the Polish Energy Law (case description). HWW also obtained distribution system operator (OSDn) status for a client (case description). Each case has its own facts, so this outcome does not predetermine another.
